A Freelancer

 This is going to sound TOTALLY crazy…

But 36 months ago I was 🫣 ASHAMED to call myself a freelancer ↴ 

I’ve been freelancing as a brand + A freelancer Shopify | Digital Marketer & SEO Expert | Keyword Research | Ads Campaign | Wordpress, Elementor & Accounting Bookkeeper designer full-time for almost 3 years now.

(damn, time goes fast!)

Ever since quitting my 9-5, I’ve been building my personal brand on LinkedIn.

Which, if you haven’t noticed…

…is full of amazingly talented and INSPIRING business-owners.

Business-owners I would constantly compare myself to.

Because they were;

🌟 Starting a cool new drink brand

🌟 Building the latest jndigitaltech agency

🌟 Running award-winning agencies with teams of 10-20 people

And I wasn’t.

I tricked myself into believing that freelancing wasn’t a “legit” business.

And I constantly felt the need to do something more.

👀 Be something bigger.

In my first year I even had someone comment saying that freelancing wasn’t “really a business”.

↳ Whilst I felt defensive at the time, part of me believed them.

So in trying to keep up with everyone else and have a “legit business”,

I’ve been trying to push to be more and do more.

All as an attempt to earn the right to call myself an ‘entrepreneur’.

Which is NOT the right way to go about growing as a business AT ALL.

This week that mindset has totally shifted for me.

Because;

1 → running a freelance business IS legit

2 → freelancing gave me the opportunity to live the life of my dreams

If you’re still not convinced, here’s why I (and EVERY freelancer) have the right to call themselves a business-owner;

🌟 I track and monitor my finances

💅 I market myself to potential new clients everyday

🔑 I keep my website and business up to date outside of client work

🤩 I network regularly and manage new and current client relationships

🔥 I manage workflows and systems to keep my projects flowing smoothly

👏 I strategist the vision of my business, it’s positioning and long-term direction

Sounds pretty legit to me.

Thank god I had this realisation.

Because I am now I am PROUD to call myself a freelancer.

And I or anyone else does not have to feel less than just because they’re offering a service and not selling a product.
